‘Crumlin Writes’ Book Launched By Adult Education Services  

The latest version of the book ‘Crumlin Writes’ was recently launched by City of Dublin ETB Adult Education Services, Dublin South Central. 

‘Crumlin Writes,’ which is written by the learners of the Crumlin Literacy Service has been published regularly since it was first created in 1990. The book gives learners an opportunity to practise writing with their tutors and to feel a sense of pride in what they have achieved.  

The concept for this book was introduced by Frances Ward, who started up the Crumlin Literacy Service in 1977.  

Crumlin Literacy Service has been offering reading, writing, spelling, maths, digital skills and personal development classes to the people of Crumlin and surrounding areas for 47 years. 

Real life authentic stories

Many pieces in the book are about returning to education and how taking that brave first step has changed their lives. While other learners have written about their families, hobbies, favourite holidays or festivals. It also features some poems and creative stories. 

You will feel a whole range of emotions when you read the stories. Some will make you laugh; others will make you cry, and others will make you think about how you see the world.  

Just as no two learners are the same, no two life experiences are the same, and that is what makes the stories interesting. These books are not just for us to enjoy at home, they are a great resource in the classroom, not just Crumlin classes but wherever there are learners working on improving reading and writing and spelling skills. 

The City of Dublin ETB Adult Education team were delighted that Frances Ward attended the launch of Crumlin Writes 2024. They were also joined at the launch by Gwen Redmond, the Adult Education Officer for Dublin 8, 10, 12 and 6W and Marie Reilly, the current ALO.
